The Spring Edit

img_4506

March 20th: the official day Spring sprung! Without a doubt in my mind I’m obsessed with the overall composition of this look. Glossy skin, bold brows and bare lips are the basics of this ensemble.

  • Glowy Skin – For me my makeup isn’t complete unless I top it off with a touch of highlight, particularly cream-based. As of late I’ve rediscovered my MAC Cream Colour Base in Hush. Once the sunlight strikes your cheekbones there’s no denying the luminosity it leaves you with. There’s a saying that goes ‘The proof is in the pudding.’ well in this case it’s ‘The proof is in the picture.’
  • Unruly Brows – My brow technique has without fail been the most consistent aspect of my makeup routine. Bold yet still on the natural spectrum, my ride or die to achieve bushy brows is the Anastasia Brow Definer in Chocolate.
  • Simple Eye – Spring is the time when all things color start appearing but if you’re a girl like me then bright shades tend to intimate you. Which is the exact reason adding a hint of a subtle colored shadow into the crease for some definition on the eye could make a world of a difference. Personally, muted purple shades make my brown eyes {or what I like to call ‘poop eyes} stand out a tad more which I love!
  • Natural Lip – I feel as though the whole matte lip craze has slowly started to wither away, so with that being said I’ve began to embrace the simplest lip of them all: bare lips. The natural tone of my lips are quite pink which is ideal for the spring time drawing near. All I’ll do is slap on a lip balm for both nourishment & a hint of gloss and I’m out the door.

The Glow Getters

Non-touring: an approach to your makeup shunning the heavily contoured look and embracing a natural glowy complexion. Personally my motto is: the dewier, the better!

SKINCARE

If your anything like me then you drink Pepsi as if it’s getting discontinued {I’m trying to work on it okay!}, but until I can ween myself off of it I’m gonna stick to slapping on a thicker moisturizer a little bit before I sit down at my vanity. My go-to one is the Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion. I like to refer to it as my everyday shot of hydration. It leaves the skin with the appearance of moisturized / glossy skin, what more could you ask of a cream.

A technique I’ve loved incorporating in my beauty routine as of late is combing a few droplets of a glowy serum with a tinted moisturizer. In this case we’re chatting about Glossier’s Super Glow Serum & Pixi’s H20 Skin Tint. Grabbing a damp beauty blender and dabbing {insert a gif of an old lady dabbing} into the skin leaves you with a flawless yet natural base.

MAKEUP

A product that’s out of the ordinary to achieve glossy skin is Glossier’s Balm Dotcom. The texture leans a little more on the sticky / tacky side but trust me, after a light sweep of powder it appears as if a little of your natural oils have crept to the surface. Read very carefully what I’m about to write: cream – based products are the key to a dewy complexion. Once they’ve sat on the skin for a bit they begin to melt into the face & become extremely skinlike. The drugstore has been killing my blush and bronzer game, the Wet n’ Wild Mega Cushion Contour = A+ combined with the H&M Cream Blusher in Cameo Brown.

I’m all tapped out for this Glowy Guide! ✨

All Eyes On Elf

img_0003

Skincare is one of those aspects in beauty that I tend not to venture out from. For the longest time I wouldn’t have even dared to mess with Elf’s skincare but let me tell you, they’ve stepped up their skincare game big time. I’m honestly in love with the aesthetic for their whole new skincare range!

  • Prep & Hydrate Balm: The moment I laid my eyes on this “hydration chapstick” I knew I was smitten. From the light aqua casing to the fresh fragrance there’s no denying that Elf has stepped up their skincare game. As far as the balm itself I wouldn’t go as far as to say it primes the skin but it sure leaves the skin feeling hydrated and plumped. For all my dry skin girls out there this could be the step your makeup routine is missing!
  • Micellar Cleansing Water: We all have this vision in our head of coming home after a long day, taking all your makeup off and continuing on with our extensive regimen but in all honestly that NEVER happens {at least not for me}. I reach straight for the micellar water night after night & I’m kinda undecided on how I feel about this one. Don’t get me wrong it gets the job done but it’s not my #1 and whatever you do DON’T use this on your eyes! {You’ve been warned!}
  • Hydrating Water Essence: You know you’re intrigued by something when it seems to linger in the back of your mind for days and that’s the case with this essence. This water-based lotion claims to leave the skin feeling refreshed and oh so smooth & I wouldn’t completely disagree. The best way to describe your skin after using this is light-reflective. It’s not glowy, it leaves you with more of a fresh faced appearance.

A Glimpse Into Glossier

With 2017’s beginning approaching the subject of growing up has been at the forefront of my mind and with that I’ve been reflecting on my beauty journey. My taste in makeup has changed drastically, I’m much more into the natural approach and Glossier is the ideal brand for enhancing all my natural features.

One of the avenues to my heart is thru any beauty product promising a “lit from within” complexion. So the instant my eyes caught sight of one of Glossier’s newest serums, Super Glow a.k.a apart of The Supers Squad, it was practically already in my shopping cart. My #1 way to work with this serum is to mix it in with my BB cream, you can say I’m an expert at making my own foundation cocktail.

The Boy Brow‘s constituency leans more towards the pomade side of things while getting the hold & pigmentation of a tinted brow gel. From day one its had its own spot on my vanity top and there is no sign of it being pushed to the back of my makeup drawers anytime soon. Trick: I’ve used this before as mascara for my lower lash line and let me just say, it has completely changed my mascara game.

In my family we have this saying that we’re continuously telling each other, we’re ride or die and that’s exactly how I feel towards the Stretch Concealer. It makes your undereyes look as though you haven’t stayed up until 1 am binge watching Law & Order and snap chatting your best friend!

The dewy skin has been in full effect recently so Glossier’s Haloscope in Topaz arrived at the perfect time. A turn off for me when it comes to cream highlighters is that sometimes they don’t melt into the skin for that naturally glistening affect. I’m all about those glossy borderline sweaty cheekbones and Haloscope continues to be my partner in crime for all things glowy.

We all have those go-to fragrances sitting on top of our vanities that we rotate between. So for this issue of The Fragrance Files, we’re gonna be conversing about what scents are battling each other at the moment.

  1. Miss Dior Eau de Parfum: The Dior brand embodies elegance. From their gorgeous makeup to their killer shades and this fragrance is by no means any different. This aroma has a citrusy freshness with a touch of jasmine.
  2. Elizabeth & James Nirvana {White}: I picture this scent on a sophisticated lady from The Upper East Side who is about to jet out the door for a mid Sunday brunch with her girlfriends or a natural grunge girl who loves nothing more then an all black outfit and to accessorize with a choker. With notes of peony and musk this perfume is the definition of refinement.
  3. Gucci Bamboo: I’m sure I could sit here and endlessly describe about how this fragrance carries notes of Italian Bergamot, Sandalwood and Casablanca but if I’m being 100% real with you the only way I can describe this scent as being da bomb!
  4. Elizabeth & James Nirvana {Black}: One whiff of this perfume and you’ll know it’s similar yet worlds apart from its sister scent. Consisting of Violet, Vanilla and a touch of Sandalwood, there is no better aroma with the perfect blend of masculine and feminine.

Style Profile: Accessories

For as long as I can remember, I’ve constantly stuck to the basic Black Ray Ban shades but all good things must come to an end. I’ve been on the hunt for a good pair of sunnies for a while now and one night I was aimlessly scrolling through the H&M website and that’s when I laid my eyes on them. An Aviator style with silver toned lenses.

Chokers are one of those pieces in your jewelry stash that you have the choose to either dress up, you could possibly pair it with a classic simple black dress or casual it out with one of my beloved outfit choices, a comfy romper. I only have 2 in my collection so far, both from Etsy and black of course. One a Faux Leather Two Strand Choker and the other a Thin Velvet Choker.

Within the past month or so, rings have had their own particular home on my vanity top. A concept I’ve been especially fond of though has been layering rings. Whether I’m multiple rings on one finger or opting for a midi ring, I can’t seem to put down this hand accessory.

Remember Me?

Remember me? It’s been far longer then I’d like to admit since the last time I hit the publish button. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve tried writing out what’s been going on in my life right now or whats gone on these past couple of months that I’ve been MIA. If you would have only seen the papers I’ve been using to jot down the ideas in my head, full of scribbles, arrows pointing to things I want to mention and things I don’t. These last 4 months or so definitely classify as crazy, both in a good and bad sense. I’ve been a lot more busy this year then I ever thought I was gonna be and there’s no sign of it slowing down in the next 6 months. The main thing I want you to take out of this post is that I’M BACK TO BLOGGING!! There isn’t going to be a specific day on which I post a blog, so expect to be seeing either one post a week or you never know there could be 2.

The Wishlist: Vol. II

Processed with VSCOcam with b4 preset

The beauty world has been killing it as of late with countless cutting edge beauty launches. From Colourpop doing their take on the infamous brow pomade to Maybelline showing off some sneak peeks back stage at Fashion Week. Oh, and have you seen Urban Decay’s Summer 2016 Collection. I have my eye out for there Naked Skin One & Done Hybrid Complexion Perfector so much so that I might be placing a sneaky order tonight. You see I’m not even done typing up this post and I’m already getting myself to go online shopping.

  • Colourpop Ultra Satin Lip: I’ve had an incurable hunger for one of Colourpop’s latest releases and to make matters worse the shade Mess Around has caught my eye. I’d characterize this shade as a grunge lip for us natural girls.
  • NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil: I’m all about a first-class matte lip so when a review from none other then Lily Pebbles popped into my Bloglovin’ feed raving about a brown mauve matte lip color (Bahama) I couldn’t help but press buy in my online shopping cart.
  • Burberry Fresh Glow BB Cream: All it took for me to longing want this was the sheer fact that it says fresh glow in the name of it. Need I say more, I think not.
  • Diptyque Feu de Bois Candle: A while back I received a mini size of the Jasmin candle from Diptyque and the second I light the candle I knew I had been sucked it. Now I’m over here drooling over a woody scent and picturing it burning in my room.
  • Glossier Boy Brow: The department of brows has constantly been the one aspect of my makeup regime I haven’t fully grasped yet. I mean it’s well over a year since the last time I got my brows threaded, don’t get me wrong they looked bomb afterwards but the whole getting their part wasn’t so easy. But I’ve made a promise to my mom (hopefully she forgets) that within the next couple of weeks I’ll take the plunge and get them threaded so I feel as though the Glossier Boy Brow would be perfect for a no fuss brow routine.
  • Makeup Forever Step 1  Skin Equalizer Primer: A primer can either make or break the way your makeup lays on your skin. It seems everyone and their mom has raved about Makeup Forever’s Primer range so when I heard that their is a hydrating version I couldn’t resist dragging it to my online shopping cart.

The Beauty Blender

Every good artist needs tools for their trade, mine just happens to be makeup related.

The first time little me took the plunge and invested in the beauty blender things didn’t quite turn out how I had planned. It seemed as though everyone else had found their partner in crime when it came to a base product tool and I was over here trying to figure out why this was any better then using your fingertips or lets say a brush. Come to find out the whole time I’d been punishing this tool for my own mistake – I hadn’t read about the part where your supposed to saturate it before using it. Trust me when I say that it made a world of a difference. Now I can’t seem to let this little guy out of my possession.

The beauty blender can practically make anything look like skin. Whether it’s foundation, concealer, liquid highlighter – you name it, it blends it. The only thing you have to think while using it is pounce and pat, once you get that technique down there is nothing that can stop you.  Also who doesn’t want a black egg shaped sponge sitting on on their vanity for all to admire.
